Vernon Charles Bachman, age 85, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born July 7, 1941, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Vernon C. Bachman, Sr. and Marie Bicovich Bachman.
Mr. Bachman was a 1959 graduate of Glen Burnie High School; He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy until 1962. He then earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Baltimore. In 1971 he became owner and operator of the former Sylvania Plumbing and Heating Company in Chambersburg, which he operated for over 20 years. In retirement, Mr. Bachman worked for Lowes and drove a school bus. He was a member of LifePoint Church, the Chambersburg Club, VFW Post 1599, Acacia Lodge 586 in Waynesboro, PA, and formerly the Chambersburg Country Club. He enjoyed fishing and crabbing on the Magothy River, where he grew up and in the Outer Banks, NC.
Surviving is a daughter, Deborah Russell of Chambersburg, PA; 3 grandchildren; and two siblings, Frederick J. Bachman (Jodie) of Pasadena, MD and Dennis L. Bachman of Pasadena, MD; and his longtime companion, Phyllis Stouffer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Vernon III and Eric Bachman and his previous companion, Joan Smith.
