Terry Allen Oliver, 64, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026, after a hard-fought, two-year battle with cancer. He faced his illness head-on and handled it as a personal “solo mission,” carrying himself with strength, grit, and quiet resolve that defined him throughout his life.
Born December 13, 1961, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Terry was the son of the late Pearlie Amos Oliver and Margaret Elizabeth (Fultz) Oliver. He was a 1979 graduate of Laurel Highlands High School in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
After high school, Terry proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for eight years. His time in the Marines meant a great deal to him, and the bonds he formed there stayed with him throughout his life.
Following his honorable discharge, Terry built a long and steady career with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority as a track repairman. He took pride in his work and retired in 2018 after decades of dedicated service. Not one to sit idle for long, Terry began working part time at the local Food Lion, happy to stay active and greet familiar faces in the community he loved.
On December 31, 1999, he married his wife, Kay M. (Main) Oliver, at Bush Creek Church of the Brethren in Monrovia, Maryland. Together they shared a strong partnership and enjoyed traveling to places like Las Vegas, the Bahamas, and Athens, Greece.
Terry was a committed member of Bush Creek Church of the Brethren, where he served as a Deacon and contributed his time as chair of the Ministry Commission. He was also a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan who loved attending training camps and catching a game whenever he could. For many years, he also headed up the Pittsburgh Steelers Fan Club of Frederick, Maryland.
Terry was his own man. He was independent, strong-willed, and never one to follow the crowd. He enjoyed a good debate, had a sharp sense of humor, and wasn’t afraid to speak his mind. He could be stubborn and a bit cantankerous at times, but those who knew him understood his loyalty, his authenticity, and the humor he carried beneath it all. As the youngest in his family, he held his place with a certain edge and presence that was unmistakably his.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his niece, Cheriese Williams of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, who was like a daughter to him; his step daughter, Tracie Brown and her husband Brian of Aldie, Virginia; his grandson, Alexander Brown; his siblings: Ida (Oliver) Williams of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania; Amos Oliver, Jr., Grace Oliver, Mary Oliver, and Beatrice (Oliver) Young, all of Uniontown, Pennsylvania; Donna (Oliver) Murray of El Paso, Texas; and James Oliver of Nashville, Tennessee; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his siblings: Annette, Maxine, Ruth, Cheryl, Kenneth, and Roberta (Sue).
A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Bush Creek Church of the Brethren, 4821 Green Valley Road, Monrovia, Maryland, with Pastor Dawn Weller officiating. Burial will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pennsylvania on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to those who cared for Terry throughout his illness, including Dr. Brock Adams of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital; Dr. Gagnon of Frederick Radiology; Dr. Kang and her team at Inova Schar Cancer Institute; the doctors, nurses, and staff at Inova Loudoun Hospital for their compassion, care, and professionalism; and finally, Chris (physical therapist) and Jill (head nurse) at Frederick Crossing, whose support made a meaningful difference.
Arrangements are entrusted to Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. Online condolences may be shared at www.bowersoxfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bush Creek Church of the Brethren in Terry’s memory.
