Ms. Suella Denise Smith, 68, of Hagerstown, and more recently a resident of Julia Manor, Hagerstown, passed peacefully early Thursday morning, Oct. 12, 2017, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown.
Born Dec. 12, 1948, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Anthony Wayne and Edna Joyce Baumgardner Smith.
Suella was a 1966 graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School, and a devout parishioner of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, both of Hagerstown. Suella was a diehard Baltimore Orioles and professional wrestling fan. She was a member of The Maryland Theatre and Totem Pole Playhouse and loved to attend shows and musicals. Her hobbies included collecting Academy Award and Gone with the Wind memorabilia, watching a good movie and listening to music. Her joy for life was equal to her contagious laughter.
Suella is survived by her beloved second cousin, Leon (Colleen) Bowers of Hagerstown, whom she considered her little brother; first cousin, Beverly (Bill) Bowers of Hagerstown; aunts, Helen Hamilton of Chambersburg, Pa., Rosemary Jablonski of Chambersburg, Pa., and Jeannie Chamberlain of Waynesboro; and numerous other cousins and extended family members from both the Smith and Baumgardner families.
The family will receive friends at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown, on Monday, Oct. 16, from 12:30 p.m. until the service begins at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Deacon William P. Nairn will offer prayers. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
