Mrs. Shirley Mae Socks Stephens, 83, of Halfway, died peacefully Monday, October 12, 2020, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Lauren L. Stephens, her beloved husband who died July 21, 2020.
Born April 14, 1937, in Hagerstown, she was a daughter of the late William Frederick and Effie Mae Gossard Socks. She graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1955; and was the co-founder and owner of Stephens Excavating Company, which she operated with her husband for over 50 years.
Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, sister and aunt. Family meant everything to her, and she devoted her entire life to their care and happiness.
She is survived by two children, Pam S. McDonald and husband Arch, and Lauren L. Stephens II, and wife Lisa; her grandchildren, Sarah E. Mickanis, and husband J. P., and Connor P. Stephens; her great-grandchildren Hannah, Avery and Scarlett Mickanis; her beloved brothers and sisters, Connie Perry, Alice Gettel and husband John, Clara Ann Buchanan, David Socks, Ronald Socks and wife Sue, Glenda McLucas and husband Steve; sister-in-law Deborah Socks, and brothers-in-law, Bucky Schrock and Jack Langenstein; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her siblings Jean Langenstein, Sharon Schrock and Robert Socks.
Friends may visit Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, Monday, October 19, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. A graveside service will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, 127 Britner Avenue, Williamsport, Tuesday, October 20, at 11:00 AM, with her pastor, Rev. Randall S. Reid of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Hagerstown, officiating.
