Mrs. Shirley (Myers) Freshman, 66, of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, April 27, 2026, following an extended illness.
Born on September 24, 1959, in Hagerstown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Betty (Johnson) Myers. Shirley attended Greencastle-Antrim High School and went on to build a life centered on family, friendship, and loyalty to those she loved.
On July 10, 1978, she married the love of her life and her very best friend, Carroll L. “Rudy” Freshman. Together they shared a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Rudy passed away January 5, 2026, after nearly 48 years together.
Shirley spent many dedicated years working at Corning Glass in Greencastle. After retiring, she continued working as a medical transcriptionist for several more years.
Shirley was feisty, strong-willed, and unapologetically herself. She truly cherished time spent with her friends, whether it was relaxing by her swimming pool, sharing laughs, or simply enjoying each other’s company. She loved camping, traveling, and exploring new places, but some of her happiest moments were the simple ones spent surrounded by the people who meant the most to her.
Even in her later years, as her health declined, Shirley remained closely connected to those she loved, always making time to stay in touch, if not in person, then through phone calls and she continued being a part of their lives.
She will be fondly remembered for the little things, like making what many insist were the very best mashed potatoes, and for the deep love she had for her dogs. Each one held a special place in her heart, and she never forgot them. Above all, Shirley was a devoted and loving mother.
She is survived by her daughter, Casey Leigh Freshman of Greencastle, who was the center of her world and the focus of her greatest love and care; her sisters, Barbara Schroyer and her husband Vernon, and Carol Morgan and her longtime companion Jeff Williams, all of Greencastle; her brother-in-law, Frank Scott, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. She shared a particularly special bond with her nephews, Jay Morgan (Shelby Diehl) and Frankie Scott, both of Greencastle.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rudy, and her sister, Pam Scott.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 South Washington Street, Greencastle, with Pastor Denise Horn officiating.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, at the funeral home.
In honor of Shirley’s lifelong love for animals, memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road, West Chambersburg, PA 17201.
