Shirley A. (Murray) Frain, 88, of Greencastle, PA, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the York Hospital, York, PA.

Born April 13, 1936, in Chambersburg, PA, she was the youngest of twelve children born to the late John M. and Nellie E. (Haugh) Murray.

She married the love of her life, John A. Frain on November 25, 1953. They would have celebrated their 71st anniversary this year. Together they were co-owners of ELM Garage, Inc., Greencastle, which they ran from May, 1973 until February, 2017.

She also did work for a time at Diller’s Potato Chip, Greencastle and Lehman’s Egg Service, Greencastle, in addition to taking care of her home and family.

She was a member of Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro. She was a kind and caring lady who easily made friends. She loved to travel, go camping, and loved getting together with her family. She always made an effort to attend the family reunions. She also made a delicious peanut butter cake! Shirley found pleasures in the simple things that life had to offer and would often recount stories of the deer she would see in her yard. When she saw them, you could be sure to hear her talking to them offering them a friendly “hello!”, even when driving past them in the car. Above all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren!

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Phyllis J. Ames and her husband, John of Chambersburg and Sharon M. Hudson and her companion, Dave Dickson, of Greencastle, a daughter-in-law, Kathy L. Frain; seven grandchildren: Tammy L. Barner and her husband, Larry of St. Thomas, PA, Eric A. Frain of Greencastle, Wade Younker and his wife, Amy of Greencastle, Tyler Ames and his wife, Veronica of Newville, PA; Michael Hudson and his wife, Annie of Hookstown, PA, Travis Hudson and his wife, Jess of Greencastle, Jason Hudson and his companion, Stacy McCall of New Waterford, OH; three step-grandchildren: Heidi Edwards and her husband, Daniel of Guam, Geri Rupert and her husband, Lane of Ruffsdale, PA and John “JD” Ames of Latrobe, PA; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Long of Fayetteville, PA and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Larry A. Frain, who passed away May 13, 2023; her brothers: Omar Murray, Raymond Murray, Charles Murray, Sr., Nevin Murray, John “Bud” Murray, Wayne Murray and Marlin Murray; her sisters: Dorothy “Jean” Musselman, Nellie Bingaman and Doris Lesher.
