Sandra “Sandy” Ann Peichert Snyder, a child of God, went to be her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 31, 2024, at Mercy House, Chambersburg PA. She was a long time resident of Shippensburg PA. Born, March 19, 1947 in Hartford, CT, she was raised in New Britten, CT, the daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth “Betty” (Powchak) Peichert. Also preceding her in death was her younger sister Donna C Douglass.
Surviving Sandy are her two step-daughters; Sheryl Greenwald (Gary) of St Pete Beach, FL, and Bobbie Jo Stine (Michael), of Chambersburg, PA; her sister, Gail Clark of Seminole, FL; five step-grandchildren; Emilee Clark (Kevin), Benjamin Stine, Kristin Stine, Erica Greenwald, Lauren Gigi (Eilon); one niece; Stacey Howard; three nephews; Robert Howard, Ronald Douglass, and Henry Douglas; two great nieces and two great nephews; a great-great niece and nephew, an aunt, cousins and many close friends.
Sandy graduated from New Britain Senior High School in 1965. She graduated in 1969 from Wittenberg University in Springfield, OH with a Bachelor of Music degree, majoring in church music, organ, with a minor in education. She later graduated from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, PA with a Master of Arts in Religious Education. She served as Director of Christian Education and Youth Minister at Trinity Lutheran Church, Chambersburg, PA for twelve years and then served part-time at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greencastle, PA for five years. She was later employed by United Telephone for 17 years and retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Treasury Department.
In Sandy’s retirement she was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church for the past 28 years where she served as Sunday School Teacher, helped with the youth ministry group, and participated in Choir and Bell Choir.
Throughout her life she was dictated to helping others by volunteering to serve Thanksgiving Dinner for the Salvation Army, and delivering Meals on Wheels. Her hobbies and interests included, knitting, playing the organ, reading, outdoor activities and walks. Sandy was a kind-hearted generous person, who cherished spending time with family and friends; she will be deeply be missed.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 7, 2024, in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Patricia Dixon will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sandy’s memory may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 58 S 2nd Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201 and/or to Mercy House of Chambersburg, 730 Norland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
