Ruth Arlene Gipe, 89, who previously resided at 428 Vermont Ave., Hagerstown, Maryland, went peacefully to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD.

Born February 1, 1925, in Breezwood, PA, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lusk McClure and Rebecca Ruth (Daniels) McClure, Chambersburg PA.

She was preceded in death October 13,2001 by her husband of 58 years, Eber Montgomery Gipe. They were married on August 7, 1943.

She devoted her life to Family, Church, Friends, and Neighbors.

She graduated from the Chambersburg Area Senior High School in 1943. She was a Homemaker and worked at the J.J. Newberry Company, Chambersburg, PA.

She was a life long member of the Saint Matthew’s United Methodist Church, Hagerstown, MD., where she served on the Comrades Class and numerous committees.  Organizations: National AARP, former member of the West End Senior citizens.

She is survived by her 6 children, Robert E. Gipe and wife Susan of Woolwich N.J., Dennis G. Gipe and wife Carol, Cherie L. Mitchell and husband Gary, and Randy S. Gipe all of Hagerstown., MD., Timothy M. Gipe and wife Dawn of Greencastle, PA.,

and Rodney L Gipe and wife Caroline of John’s Island, S.C. Grandchildren: Adam C. Gipe, Dr. Kathryn Gipe-Talone, Jennifer M. Wilhide, Kalina M. Gipe, Matthew B. Gipe, and Rebecca C. Gipe. Great—grandchildren: Elizabeth L. Gipe, Cameron J. Gipe,

Sarah A. Gipe, Bailey M. Wilhide, Bryce J.Wilhide, and Anders J. Talone. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her sister’s Scottanna and Doris Jean McClure and brother Robert L. McClure.

Services will be held at the Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, MD 21740. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday March 29, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. The Rev. Jerry Lowans is officiating

services at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, 443 W. Franklin St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
