Russell Elmer Poe, Sr., age 80, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Mercy House in Chambersburg, PA. Born in New Franklin, PA, on July 13, 1944, he was the son of the late Elmer Franklin and Ethel Elizabeth Helman Poe.
Mr. Poe worked 45 years at the former Grove Worldwide, retiring in 2006. He enjoyed collecting eagles, sitting on porch watching birds, and traveling.
Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Bonnie Lee Lynch Poe; two children, Tanya D. Glass (husband Robert) and Russell E. Poe, Jr. (wife Kelly) both of Chambersburg, PA; three grandchildren, Brandon Glass, Amber Carbaugh (husband Hunter), and Kerri Poe; and two great grandchildren, Reagan and Jaxon Mills. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Maye Wible and Patricia Zimmerman.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 11 AM in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Norland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Mercy House, 730 Norland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
