Mrs. Robin Joan Gelfand Handler, 70, of Hagerstown, died suddenly Saturday evening, December 23, 2023, at her residence. She was the wife of Mr. David Louis Handler, her husband of 47 years.
Born June 16, 1953, in Queens, New York, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Lottie Braunstein Gelfand.
Robin was a member of Congregation B’Nai Abraham, Hagerstown.
Presently she was serving as Director of Guidance & Counseling at St. Maria Goretti Catholic High School, Hagerstown, Previously Robin worked over forty years with Washington County Public Schools in administrative positions. Over her career, she served in various positions, including guidance counselor, vice principle, and principle, at various schools. She retired in 2019 as Supervisor of Guidance Counselors for the school system.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Michael R. Handler and wife Liza of Manhattan, New York, and Carly F. Handler of Fort Worth, Texas; as well as her niece Stephanie Markoff Cohen.
In addition to her parents, Robin was preceded in death by her sister, Lynn Markoff.
The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown, is assisting the family with arrangements. Services will be private with Rabbi Mark J. Perman officiating. The family will receive friends at their residence for Shiva on Tuesday evening, December 26, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and for visiting on Wednesday, December 27, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
