Roberta (Geer) Varney, 70, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024 at the Rucki Hospice Care Center in Zephyrhills, FL after a two-year battle with ovarian cancer.

Born March 8, 1954 in Waynesboro, PA, she was the daughter of the late Dr. George W. Geer and Beulah (Stouffer) Geer. She graduated with the Waynesboro High School class of 1972 and later went on to earn an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Hagerstown Business College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. Mrs. Varney earned several credentials and learned a variety of vocations in her lifetime, including administrative assistant at Hagerstown Business College, school bus driver for Head Start in Waynesboro, kitchen designer for Lowe’s in Waynesboro, real estate agent with Jack Gaughen ERA, and administrative assistant for the Waynesboro Tax Collector’s office, to name a few.

Roberta and her husband Rod E. Varney were married July 24, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rouzerville, PA. They later moved to Zephyrhills, FL. While in Florida, she continued working a diverse number of jobs such as Concierge for The Commons assisted living, receptionist at Crystal Lake retirement village, and front desk assistant for Gardner Audiology. However, her lifelong skill and passion was sewing and embroidery. She channeled this into her own business named Cool Threads Shop where she designed, digitized, created, and sold her embroidered craft wares. She enjoyed creating items for friends and family as well, especially her grandkids.

In addition to her parents, Roberta was preceded in death by her brother, Stephen Geer of Smithsburg, MD and nephew, John Horsey of St. Louis, MO. In addition to her husband Rod, she is survived by her brother, Jim Geer and his wife, Barbara of Mont Alto, PA; sister, Gloria Horsey of Waynesboro, PA; sister-in-law, Kathy Geer of Hagerstown, MD; son, Paul Doty of Bellingham, WA; daughter Karen (Doty) Black and her husband Tim; grandkids, Connor and Katie Black, all of Fayetteville, PA, plus numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro PA. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro PA.
