Roberta Bricker Scott, 86, affectionately known as “Birdie,” departed from this life on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in the home of her grandson in Moorefield, West Virginia. Formerly of Waynesboro, Birdie moved to West Virginia to be closer to her daughter and her family in July, 2024.
She was born on March 21, 1939, in Hagerstown, Maryland, to the late Robert and Helen (Cline) Bricker. Birdie graduated from the Waynesboro Senior High School with the class of 1957. On July 6, 1958, she married the love of her life, Glenn W. Scott. They enjoyed many years together living in the Zullinger and Wingerton areas and were married for fifty years until his passing on July 13, 2008.
As a young woman, Birdie worked at various retail stores in the Waynesboro area. In 1973, she and her husband bought the H&R Block Income Tax franchise which they operated until 1980. In January, 1988, they opened their own tax office, Waynesboro Economy Income Tax Service, which she managed until 2010.
Birdie was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rouzerville, Pennsylvania. She enjoyed volunteer work. She worked for the American Cancer Society, the Zullinger Community Center Association, where for many years she helped make slippery beef pot pie for its fundraiser dinners, and the Waynesboro Hospital gift shop.
In her younger years, Birdie enjoyed water skiing, horseback riding, volleyball, and bicycling. She and her husband also traveled extensively and made three cross-country trips. In her later years, she enjoyed playing cards and working on puzzles.
Birdie also treasured time with her family. She is survived by her daughter, Robin See, and her husband, Nathaniel; her grandson, Colton, and his wife, Pauline; her granddaughter, Caitlyn, and her husband, Michael, and three great-grandchildren, Lillian and Marguerite “Daisy” Hope and Foster See; and two brothers, Robert Bricker and Dennis Bricker. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patsy Dillow.
Birdie’s Celebration of Life service will be on Saturday, November 15, at 2:00 PM at the Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. Her family will receive friends and family from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service.
