Robert Russell Carbaugh, 73, of 3 Leroy Street, Hagerstown, died Friday, October 28, 2011, at his residence.



Born December 3, 1937, in Hagerstown, he was a son of the late Omar Russell and Violet Mable Troupe Carbaugh.


He was preceded in death by his step-mother Helen Louise Knox Carbaugh.



Bob retired from the US Navy after serving for more than twenty years having done three tours of duty in Vietnam and served aboard the USS McKinley.


After leaving the service he worked as a security guard with several companies.



Bob was a great believer in exercise.


Before he was faced with health issues, he enjoyed lifting weights, and running at City Park and the Potomac River.



He is survived by his sister, Carol J. Rockwell of Falling Waters, West Virginia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.



Besides his parents and stepmother, Bob was preceded in death by siblings, Shirley A. Wiles, and Richard L., David W. and James T. Carbaugh.



The family will receive friends at the Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, Wednesday, November 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.


Inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.



In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Food Resources, 220 McRand Court, Hagerstown, MD
