Mr. Richard Andre Lessard, 76, of Falling Waters, West Virginia, died Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Winchester (Virginia) Medical Center. He was the husband of Mrs. Frances J. Daignault Lessard, his wife of 53 years.
Born May 30, 1940, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, he was a son of the late Martin Andre and Marguerite H. Brunelle Lessard. He graduated in 1957, from Woonsocket High School; and proudly served in the United States Navy from 1958-62.
Mr. Lessard was employed for 35 years with Tech Industries, Woonsocket, as a machine design engineer.
He was a member of Marlowe Assembly of God Church, Falling Waters. Formerly, prior to relocating to West Virginia, he was a 27 year member of Ocean State Baptist Church.
Mr. Lessard served as a foster father for 18 years. During this time he fostered and cared for over 500 at risk children. Additionally, he volunteered as a Royal Ranger Commander for 35 years.
Surviving besides his wife, are his children, Alan Richard Lessard, Brian Edward Lessard. Lori Ann Brown, Kelly Jean Bourk, and Ted and Don Lessard; fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren; as well as his siblings, Orise Marguerite Costa, Andrea Frances Cash, and Dennis Martin and Michael Paul Lessard.
The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown, is handling the arrangements. A memorial service will be held at First Assembly of God Church, 420 Mendon Road, Woonsocket, on Saturday, June 18, at 11:00 AM. Rev. Jeffrey M. Mount will officiate.
