Mr. R. Eugene “Gene” Knepper, 90, of Waynesboro, PA passed away Friday, September 11, 2026, in his home.
Born March 1, 1936 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late James K. and N. Josephine (Eyler) Knepper. He was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area.
He was a graduate of Waynesboro Senior High School with the Class of 1954.
Gene served with the United States Navy from 1955 until 1959as an aircraft electrician.
He and his wife of over 66 years, Mrs. C. Irene (Conrad) Knepper, were married on September 10, 1960 in the First Christian Church in Waynesboro.
Gene was employed in the Electrical Production and Engineering Department of Landis Tool Company from 1960 until 1984. He then worked at Wayne Tool Co., from 1984 until 1992 and later Ventura Foods in Chambersburg from 1992 until his retirement in 1998. Following his retirement, he was a partner with L. & K. Tooling Co. in Waynesboro.
He was a longtime and active member of the former Faith United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, where he served as an usher, was in charge of scheduling ushers and was a member and past treasurer of the Married Couples’ Sunday School Class. He was also a member of Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319, Greencastle, Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15, Waynesboro, Eagles, Inc., Waynesboro, Marine Corp League, Chambersburg and Acacia Lodge #586, F.&A.M., Waynesboro.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Cynthia I. “Cindy” Hauver (Mark) of Smithsburg, MD, Roy E. Knepper, Jr. (Karen) of Waynesboro, Brenda E. Crouse (Tim) of Waynesboro and Rodger E. Knepper (Megan) of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren, Andrew Knepper (Elizabeth), Nicole Hauver, Colleen Glenn (Zachary), Rylee Benedict (Carson), Hannah Knepper, Eric Knepper and Jack Knepper; 14 great-grandchildren, Catarina, Josef, Beatrice, André, Annalise, Gregory, Gerard, Leo and Veronica Knepper, Clara, Zoey and Kaitlyn Glenn and Makenzie and Kennedy Blickenstaff ; one sister, Beverly Roberge of Waynesboro; his sister-in-law, Phyllis Knepper Shatzer of Greencastle; brothers-in-law, Allen Conrad (Sandy, deceased) and William A. Conrad (Anne); and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, A. Marie Kohler and her husband, William and Yvonne Grey and her husband, Peter; one brother, J. Richard Knepper; father & mother-in-law, William and Clara Conrad; and brother-in-law, Ronald Conrad and his wife, Nancy.
The family would like to thank Journey Hospice for the excellent care they provided Gene during his final days.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 16, 2026 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, PA with Chaplain Jennifer Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro where military honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
