Mr. Paul E. Honodel, 102, a resident of Menno Haven Retirement Community, Chambersburg, PA and formerly of Waynesboro, PA, died on Thursday, September 4, 2025, in the nursing home.
Born August 3, 1923 in Rouzerville, PA, he was the son of E. Omar and Sadie (Fox) Honodel and lived most of his life in the Rouzerville and Waynesboro areas.
Mr. Honodel enlisted in Battery F 166th Field Artillery Battalion of the Pennsylvania National Guard on December 5, 1940. Battery F convoyed to Camp Shelby, MS in January 1941 for what was supposed to be a one year tour of duty; but on December 7, 1941, they were extended for the duration of the war. He served with Battery C 939th Field Artillery Battalion in the Italian, Southern France, and German Campaigns and served in the Third Armored Cavalry following World War II.
On November 18, 1951, he was married to Edna R. Stull in Mount Wolfe, PA by Reverend Charles Ankerbrand. Mrs. Honodel died on December 30, 2017.
He retired from Mack Trucks, Inc., Hagerstown, MD in 1985 after working for twenty-three years as a Maintenance Electrician.
He was a member of Local 307 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers of Cumberland, MD, a retired member of Local 171 United Automobile Workers, a member of the Rouzerville United Methodist Church – currently the Rouzerville Christian Church, and a life member of American Legion Post 15. During his retirement years, Mr. Honodel engaged in woodworking and investing.
He is survived by his children Rex Honodel and his wife, Debora of Glen Allen, VA and Karen Andrewlavage and her husband, Michael of Norfolk, VA; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two children, Linda Janosko and William Perritte; five sisters; and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 10, 2025 in the Rouzerville Christian Church, 11977 Old Route 16, Rouzerville, PA with Pastor Laura Bulger officiating. Burial will be private in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville, PA, where military honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church.
