Mr. Otto Cameron Wiegand, Jr., 81, of Hagerstown, and formerly of Sharpsburg, and North Carolina, died late Friday morning, October 27, 2023 at Doey’s House, Hospice of Washington County, Hagerstown.  He was the husband of Mrs Catherine “Cathy” Poropatic, his wife of forty-two years.

 

Fondly known as “Cameron” or “Cam” by many, he was born August 19, 1942, in Takoma Park, and was a son of the late Otto Cameron, Jr., and Agnes “Yvonne” Elder Wiegand.  He was a graduate of the University of Maryland.  Additionally, he was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in Vietnam.

 

Cam retired from Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) of Montgomery County Government in 2006.

 

He was a member of Historical Society of Washington County, and the Singer Society with the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, both of Hagerstown.  He was also an active participant at the Senior Center with Washington County Commission on Aging, also of Hagerstown.

 

He very much enjoyed making Meals-On-Wheels deliveries to the elderly, having served as a driver.

 

Besides his wife, he is survived by two children, Evan Cameron Wiegand, and wife Jenny Peck Wiegand of Keedysville, and Mary Catherine Wiegand and partner Patrick Starke of Arlington, Virginia; two grandchildren Ellie Beth and Oliver Cameron Wiegand.

 

The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown, is assisting the family with arrangements.  A service with honors will be held graveside at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 South Potomac Street, Hagerstown on Friday, November 10, at 11:00 AM.  Those attending should gather just inside the main gates at the cemetery for a procession to the gravesite moments prior to 11:00 AM.  Rev. Valerie T. Wills will officiate services.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Wiegand’s name to Hospice of Washington County, 1710 Underpass Way, Suite 300, Hagerstown, Maryland  21740; or to the charity of one’s choice.
