Norman Eugene "Skip" Snowberger, Sr., 81, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 9, 2026, at his home in Fayetteville, PA. He was born on March 21, 1944, in Chambersburg, PA, to Virginia Martina Snowberger and Emmert Ira "Slim" Snowberger. Skip graduated from Chambersburg Area Senior High School in 1962, where he played football and was a member of the Pennsylvania Big 33. He also competed in track and field-shot put, discus, and javelin-earning several wins and even setting a record. He initially attended Memphis State on a football scholarship before transferring to Shippensburg State University to continue playing football. He went on to sign with the Harrisburg Capitals, a professional football team, and later played semiprofessional football for both the Chambersburg Cardinals and the Yellow Jackets, teams that earned National Championship titles during his years with them. Skip worked briefly at Knouse Foods alongside his father and later at W.R. Grants until it closed. In 1965, he married his childhood sweetheart, Sarah Evelyn "Sally" Alcorn, with whom he shared more than seventy years of life and love. Together, they worked at the Chambersburg YMCA before moving to Maryland in 1980, where Skip continued his career in facilities maintenance. He worked at the Silver Spring YMCA and later at the Riverdale YMCA until it closed. He then spent 30 years with KinderCare in facilities maintenance, where he was beloved by the children-many of whom would call out "Hi, Mr. Skip!" when he visited their centers. He loved fishing and hunting, especially with his sons. Known as the family’s "Mr. FixIt," Skip took pride in repairing and building things for those he loved. After retiring, he and Sally returned to Fayetteville, PA, where they spent their days enjoying the outdoors with their cats and dogs and tending the garden. After Sally’s passing four months ago, Skip’s children believe the two simply weren’t meant to be apart and are now reunited forever. Skip is survived by his three children: Norman Snowberger, Jr. (Sharon), Nancy Doong, and Larry Snowberger (Beth); two grandchildren, Chelsea DuBey (Michael) and Emily Snowberger; and his great-grandson, William DuBey. He is also survived by his sisters, Martina "Teenie" Hefner and Barbara Bakner. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Sellers Funeral Home in Chambersburg, PA, at 12:45 pm, with a time of visitation beginning at 12 p.m. Interment to follow at Falling Spring Graveyard. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society and/or Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter. Online condolences may be expressed at SellersFuneralHome.com.
