Nellie Anna Susan Armel, 92, of Hagerstown, Md., died peacefully Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014.
She was the widow of Powell Page Armel, whom she met when he was manager of the roller skating rink in downtown Hagerstown and she was a competitive award-winning skate dancer.
Born in Funkstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Ruth Mary Harne Wolfe.
She was employed by Fairchild Aircraft from the early 1940s, working as a Rosie the Riveter during the war, until her retirement in the 1980s.
Fiercely loyal to her family and friends, there was always a welcome place for them at the dinner table. She will be particularly remembered for mounded platters of her famous steamed shrimp prepared for Page’s monthly poker nights, and her Thanksgiving dinners served to numerous extended family members seated around a long table that filled the dining and living rooms with laughter, love and fellowship.
She is survived by her daughters, Betty Snyder and spouse, Alvin, and Mary Ann Lambros; her son, Michael Vernon Armel and spouse, Beth; her grandchildren, Rodney Snyder and spouse, Susan, Renee Clark and spouse, Andy, Tracy Lambros and spouse, Will Backstrom, Christopher Lambros and spouse, Michelle, Jason Lambros and spouse, Jennifer, and Rebecca Bittle and spouse, Christopher; and her great-grandchildren, Hilary and Andrew Lambros, Asel and Marat Snyder, Jake, Emma and Ryan Lambros, and Dory Bittle.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Daniel Wolfe.
A service of remembrance will be Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dr. David C. Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
