Mrs. Nancy L (Harbaugh) Carson-Martz, 82, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024, in the Waynesboro Hospital.

She was born June 17, 1942, in Waynesboro, the daughter of the late Roger L. and Helen V. (Gordon) Harbaugh. She was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area.

Nancy graduated from Waynesboro Area Senior High School in the Class of 1960, marrying her first husband, the late Charles C. “Babe” Carson, on August 12, 1961. Mr. Carson died on June 14, 2004.

In 2018, she reconnected with a childhood friend, D. Stephen Martz, and they married on December 26, 2021.

In her earlier life, in addition to being a wife and mother, Nancy was a teacher’s aide at Hooverville Elementary School, Waynesboro, and a teller and loan officer for nearly 20 years at the First National Bank (currently M&T) in Blue Ridge Summit, PA.

She was a member of the Women’s Golf League at South Mountain Golf Course and the Waynesboro Country Club. She volunteered at the Waynesboro Hospital and Hooverville Elementary School, and while her children were active, she served as Treasurer of the Pen Mar Little League.

Nancy was an avid golfer who loved traveling throughout the United States and Europe and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Angela Bailey of Fayetteville, PA, and Daniel Carson of Fairfield, PA; one step-daughter, Stephanie Martz of Chevy Chase, MD; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; her siblings, Jean Baer, Ruth Baer, Margaret Shank, Mary Lou Smith, and Gordon Harbaugh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and late husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Karl Harbaugh.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, September 9, 2024, in the Evangelical Luthern Church, 43 S. Church Street, Waynesboro, with Pastor Dennis Beaver officiating. The burial will be private in Green Hill Cemetary, Waynesboro. The family will receive friends following the service at a reception.
