Nancy was born on January 23rd, 1944 in Waynesboro PA to Roy Herman Hovis and Thelma Naomi (Muth) Hovis. She graduated from Waynesboro Area Senior High School in 1961 and went on to graduate from McPherson College in McPherson KS in 1965 with a degree in education. She retired from full-time teaching in 2003 and continued as a substitute for several years after.

Nancy enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She spent many years taking guided bus tour vacations across the US and then continued taking shorter day trips with friends and local travel guides. In later years, she enjoyed traveling with her family, including many trips to Disney World and other Florida theme parks as well as many cruises including Alaska and dozens of Caribbean destinations. She had just completed a 7-day cruise to the Caribbean with her grandchildren at the end of March 2024 where she enjoyed meeting sloths and spider monkeys, seeing the sights of Honduras and Mexico, and spending some time in her favorite spot: the casino. Nancy loved her penny slot machines, especially if they included her other favorite thing, PIGS!
