Mrs. Mary E. (Rowe) Kennedy, 87, of Waynesboro, passed away Thursday morning, May 9, 2024, at South Mountain Restoration Center, South Mountain, PA.
Born October 10, 1936 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late George W., Jr. and Mary V. (Green) Rowe.
She and her husband, the late Mr. Richard E. Kennedy, were married October 16, 1954. They were together for 68 years when he passed away January 27, 2023.
Mrs. Kennedy was employed by several local factories in the Waynesboro area including Freeman Shoe Factory, Waynesboro Knitting Mill and Austin Hill. She also worked at Waynesboro Laundry for many years and with Helping Hands Adult Care in Chambersburg. She retired in 2007.
She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles #1758 Ladies Auxiliary and National AARP.
Mrs. Kennedy was an avid BINGO player and bowler for many years, bowling in several local leagues including the Thursday Night League and the Adult Senior League.
She is survived by six children, Ricky L. Kennedy of Williamsport, MD, S. Jean Freeman (Mike) of Quincy, Barbara A. Henicle (Mark) of Waynesboro, Nancy L. Wolford (Jeff) of Mont Alto, Gary E. Kennedy (Sandy) of Gettysburg and John F. Kennedy (Carolyn) of Waynesboro; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; 11 siblings, Shirley Spencer of Waynesboro, Dolly M. McFerren of Fayetteville, Robert L. “Tom” Rowe, Sr. of Waynesboro, Linda L. “Pat” Campbell of Waynesboro, Alice F. Faith of Waynesboro, Betty A. Kauffman of Waynesboro, Doris A. “Dorie” Freeman of Quincy, Debbie A. Crouse of Greencastle, Sue A. Gates of Smithsburg, Terry L. Rowe Waynesboro and Larry W. Baker of Hagerstown; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband; she was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Baker & Peggy Jones; and one brother, George W. “Sonny” Rowe, III.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff of South Mountain Restoration Center for the excellent care they provided to their mother.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, May 13, 2024 in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg with Pastor Greg Helman officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Sunday evening, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
