Mary (Cox) Armstrong, 77, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on November 29, 2023 after a valiant three year battle with cancer. Although her physical decline was quite sudden, Mary was surrounded by family and friends during her final days and hours as she passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior.
Mary was born on October 23, 1946 in Jackson, Michigan to Ralph and Rita Cox (O’Malley). Mary was especially close to her grandparents, Ralph and Minnie Cox as she grew.
Throughout Mary’s adult life, she lived in various geographic locations. From Michigan to Indiana, Washington, Florida, Maryland, and finally Pennsylvania. Over the years, she excelled at numerous roles including: Boy Scout den leader, classroom parent, Girl Scout leader, women’s ministry director, Sunday School coordinator, adventure companion, chicken wrangler, and goat milker, but most of all, she excelled at being a loving mother and faithful friend.
Mary was the heart, soul, and emotional anchor of her family. But her love for others also extended far beyond blood and DNA. Her friends, too numerous to count, were deeply cherished and considered as family by her.
Mary actively assisted in the homeschooling of two of her grandchildren for nearly 10 years. Her love of learning, sacrifice, and faithfulness had a tremendous impact on her grandchildren’s educational development.
She is survived by her son, Matthew Armstrong, two daughters, Rebekah Armstrong and Elizabeth John, four grandchildren, Connor Armstrong, Nathaniel Laws, Carrick Armstrong, Lillianna John, and two sisters, Trishanne Langford and Michele Bock. Mary is preceded in death by her parents and by her granddaughter, Alanna John.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 9th at 2pm at King Street Church, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
