Mrs. Mary Alice Binkley Anderson, 92, a residence of Brookdale Senior Living, Hagerstown, died early Sunday night, March 27, at Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown.  She was the wife of Mr. William M. ”Bill” Anderson, her husband of 71 years, who preceded her in death on September 17, 2022.

 

Born March 22, 1931, in Hagerstown, she was a daughter of the late Paul Strock and Gertrude Florence Hoover Binkley.

 

Mrs. Anderson was a Rural Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service for many years; and had previously trained as a nurse.

 

She was a longtime active member of Salem Reformed Church, Hagerstown, where she formerly belonged to the Aletheia Sunday School Class, taught 5th and 6th Grade Sunday School classes as well as being a longtime participant of the church festival and member of the cemetery board.

 

Mary Alice was a loving, caring and generous lady, yet rather witty.  She loved playing the piano; and always enjoyed gardening and canning the “fruits of her labors.”  Additionally, she volunteered with the American Red Cross, assisting with the Bloodmobile.

 

She is survived by her children, Jane Lesher and husband Richard of Cearfoss; Andrew Anderson and wife Junedale of Mercersburg, Laurie Weller and husband Timothy, Sr.  of Clear Spring, and Karen Shives and husband Michael of Fairview; her grandchildren Scott Lesher, Todd Lesher and wife Mary Beth; Andrea Carbaugh and husband David, Timothy Weller, Jr., Kameron Shives and wife Becky, McKade, Anthony, Marquell, Michael, Mariah, and Nevaeh Shives, and Kyle Crider; as well as great grandchildren, Jordan, Sophie, and Izaac Lesher and Olivia, Willa and Mila Carbaugh; and brother-in-law Billy Martin of Kingsville.

 

Mrs. Anderson will also be remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, especially Denise and Donnie Binkley.

 

She is the last of her immediate family.  Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.

 

The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown, is handling arrangements for the family.  The family will receive friends at her church, Salem Reformed Church, 13182 Salem Church Road, Hagerstown, on Thursday, March 30, beginning at 10:00 AM.  A memorial service will begin at her church of Thursday, at 11:00 AM, with her pastor, Rev. Eric D. Cox, officiating.  Interment will follow in the churchyard.
