Mrs. Margaret L. “Margie” (Kendall) Benchoff, 98, of Blue Ridge Summit, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 30, 2025 in Waynesboro Hospital with her care giver, Lisa Gardenhour-Carbaugh, by her side.
Born January 5, 1927 in Lantz, MD, she was the daughter of the late Vernon McClellan and Lucy Pearl (Stottlemyer) Kendall.
Margie attended Smithsburg High School and was of the Methodist Faith.
She and her husband, the late J. Robert Benchoff, were married in 1970. Mr. Benchoff passed away October 4, 1994.
Margie dedicated her life to taking care of others as well as the family business, Mike & Travis’s Mountain Shadows Restaurant. A woman who took great pride in hard work, she took care of both her mother and father until their passing and was an integral part of the daily operations at the restaurant until the age of 96. She treasured time spent with her family and especially loved her dog, Tiny and her cat, Suzi.
Margie leaves behind one son, H. Michael “Mike” Pryor; grandson, Travis McClellan Pryor and his wife, Bobbi DeAnn Pryor; great-grandson, Joshua Pryor and his fiancée, Jasmine “Marie” Hargreaves; and step-children, Bobbie Ann Murphy (Vincent E. Murphy), Rodney Benchoff, Larry “Joe” Benchoff (Linda Barkdoll), J. “Rex” Benchoff (Debby Benchoff). A number of step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by step-son, Jerry “Ted” Benchoff; sister, Alma Pryor; and three brothers, Elwood Kendall, Richard Kendall and Lee Kendall.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 4, 2025 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad St., Waynesboro with Pastor Eugene Cline officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade, MD.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M., Wednesday in the funeral home.
