Margaret (Peggy) Etter, 86, passed away peacefully at home in Chambersburg on March 14, 2024 after a courageous battle with ALS. Born January 27, 1938 in Danville, PA, Peggy was the daughter of the late Donald and Lesta Bangs and grew up in Millville, PA. She moved to Chambersburg, PA in 1961 to begin her teaching career as a Home Economics teacher in the Chambersburg School District. On June 25, 1966, she married William M.L. Etter, Jr. at Trinity Lutheran Church, and they had two children. During her 34 year tenure at the senior high school, she served as Class Advisor for the classes of 1964, 1988, and 1993. She was well loved and respected by both her students and colleagues. She retired in 1993. Following her retirement, Peggy continued her hobbies of sewing and knitting, reading, and playing bridge and Mahjong weekly with friends. She also joined her husband Bill on Model A Ford club adventures, flying to various places in his Cessna 170 and traveling to Alaska, Bermuda, Canada, Hawaii, and South Dakota, among others. Of all the places she traveled, her favorite was Stone Harbor, NJ, where she loved spending a week every summer with her family. She was actively involved at Trinity Lutheran Church where she served on church council and various committees. Peggy volunteered for several years with the Salvation Army’s Women’s Auxiliary and helped organize their yearly fabric fair fundraiser. A devoted wife, mother and Grandma, Peggy lived for her family. Nothing brought her more joy than time spent with Bill, her children, and 5 grandchildren.She will be remembered for her kindness, loving heart, sense of humor, and friendly personality. She is survived by her husband Bill, daughter Lisa (Abe) Diehl of Carlisle, PA, son Bill (Kim) of Chambersburg, and 5 grandchildren: Ellen Diehl, Camden Etter, Andrew Diehl, Kate Etter, Ben Etter and her sister, Nancy Holtzman of Watsontown, PA. A memorial service for both Bill and Peg Etter will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 431 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Funeral arrangements are being entrusted to Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg.
