Mrs. Lois J. (Hess) Heintzelman, 90, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024 in Messiah Lifeways at Messiah Village.

Born July 16, 1933 in Waynesboro, PA, she was the daughter of the late Herman O. and Iva V. (Kipe) Hess.

She and her husband of 68 years, Mr. Edwin C. Heintzelman, were married March 17, 1956 in Waynesboro. They made their home in Chevy Chase, MD, before moving to Rockville, MD, and then to Columbia, MD in 1994. They moved to Messiah Lifeways in Mechanicsburg, PA in February 2019.

In her early life, Mrs. Heintzelman was employed as a teller and bookkeeper at Citizens Bank in Waynesboro for 5 years and later as a teller at Riggs Bank in Washington D.C. for 3 years. She dedicated most of her life to raising her family and taking care of her home.

She was a member of the Association of Mapping Seniors (AMS). An avid bowler, she was a member of a bowling league in Wheaton, MD for 34 years, serving as secretary of the league for over 30 years. She enjoyed traveling, especially to a home, owned by her and her husband at Smith Mountain Lake in VA. She greatly enjoyed the time spent there, especially when visited by their children and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Heintzelman is survived by two children, Alan R. Heintzelman and his wife, Kathi of Sedona, AZ and Carol L. Moffatt and her husband, Edward of Mechanicsburg, PA; three grandchildren: Kaitlin Canfield and her husband, Ryan of Enola, PA; Sean Heintzelman and his wife, Alexandra of Silver Spring, MD and Tyler Burrage and his wife, Elizabeth of Elkridge, MD; five great grandchildren, Blake Canfield, Lainey Canfield, Paisley Canfield, Emmett Burrage and Liam Heintzelman; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Helen Scott, Hobert Hess, Eva Rowe, Joseph Hess, Kenneth Hess, Roy Hess, Robert Hess, Ernest Hess, Ralph Hess, Carroll Hess, Lauretta “Dotty” Pollock and infant Raymond Hess. She was the last of her immediate family.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 18, 2024 in Grove- Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, with her nephew, Pastor Steve Hess officiating. Burial will follow in Ringgold Cemetery, Ringgold, MD.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
