Mrs. Lois E. (Lehman) Hoover, 88, passed safely into the arms of her Savior and was reunited with her husband of 65 years on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, in her home at Providence Place, Chambersburg, PA.
Born September 1, 1937 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Louis Rudolph Lehman and Ethel Virginia (Jones) Lehman-Mills. She grew up in the Chevy Chase, MD area.
Lois graduated from the Washington County School of Nursing in 1958. In 1979, she graduated from Mount St. Mary’s University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She was also a member of the Kappa Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.
She and her husband, the late Richard L. Hoover, were married on November 29, 1959, in King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg, PA. Richard died on December 13, 2024.
Lois practiced nursing at Chambersburg Hospital and then at Washington County Hospital, where she worked in Coronary Care, followed by many years in the Emergency Department as a trauma nurse. She retired in 1994. Those who knew her often remarked, “once a nurse, always a nurse” as she was always willing to lend a helping hand. Even in her last years at Providence Place, she was often observed helping other residents. Following her retirement, she continued to volunteer in hospitals in hospitality.
Following her retirement, she and Richard moved to Myrtle Beach, SC for many years, enjoying their well earned freedom and meeting many new friends.
Lois enjoyed gardening, reading, painting in watercolor, playing cards and going to the beach. She loved good friends who laughed a lot. She loved her family and treasured the time spent when they were all together. Later after returning to Waynesboro, they attended services at Otterbein Church.
A special thank you to the Connections Club Group at Providence Place where Lois reconnected with old friends and made many new ones. A special and heartfelt, thank you to Amberlee, Vaughn and volunteer Julie for enriching her life daily and giving her a new sense of purpose after the loss of her beloved husband, Richard.
