Lloyd Eugene “Gene” Weagley of Tomstown Road, Waynesboro, PA died peacefully at his home, on Friday May 3, 2024. He was surrounded by his family during his final days.

Born July 17, 1946 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the first son of the late M. Eugene and Mary I. (Helfrick) Weagley.

Gene was a graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School with the class of 1964.

He married his high school sweetheart, Sally Lou West, on July 2, 1967 at his bride’s family home in Waynesboro.

Gene was a hunter and collector of arrowheads. He was well read on the history of Native Americans and the U.S. Civil War.   He was also an avid deer hunter. He hunted in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and several states in American West and South.

In his younger years, Gene was employed by his grandfather, J. Keller Helfrick, at Helfrick’s Garage near Zullinger, PA. He was then employed as a Numaric Control Technician and Electrician at Landis Tool Company. He retired in 2008. In the 1990s, he began making Shaker Furniture and continued that hobby into his retirement.

Gene was an active member of Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church, Greencastle. He was also a lifelong train enthusiast.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Annette M. Saylor of Hagerstown, MD; his son, Steven E. Weagley of Waynesboro, PA; four grandchildren: Morgan Saylor of Onancock, VA and Duncan Saylor, Max Saylor, and Beckett Weagley of Waynesboro, PA; two great grandchildren, Phynn and Korah Frank of Onancock, VA; and two brothers, Tim Weagley of York, PA and Joseph N. Weagley of Waynesboro, PA.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, May 18, 2024 in Otterbein U.B. Church, 146 Leitersburg Street, Greencastle with Pastor David Rawley officiating.  Burial will be at the convenience of his family.
