Liza S. Shaffer, age 79, of Chambersburg, PA, peacefully departed this life on August 19, 2026, at the Mercy House of Chambersburg. She was born on November 2, 1946, in the Chambersburg Hospital to the late Hettie Montgomery Shaffer and John R. Shaffer.
Liza was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friends whose presence brought laughter, conversation, style, and warmth wherever she went. She was a woman whose smile spoke both greeting and love. Confident in her opinions and generous with her time, Liza willingly volunteered at her local churches and was always ready to offer a kind word, a funny remark, or encouragement to those around her.
Liza was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and John Wesley AME Zion Church, and she attended Corpus Christi Catholic School. She worked as a beautician, a profession that reflected her love of beauty, fashion, style, and making others feel good about themselves.
Liza enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life special. She loved playing bingo, writing poetry, reading books, and cooking delicious homemade meals from scratch. She enjoyed listening to oldies-but-goodies music, dancing, and taking walks through her hometown of Chambersburg. Along her walks, she often stopped to speak with local business owners and people she met along the way, reminding them to “stay blessed and highly favored”.
She also enjoyed planting flowers and creating artful things with her hands. Her creativity, personality, and sense of humor were unmistakable. Liza was beautiful, funny and sarcastically welcoming toward strangers in a way that somehow made them feel as though they had just received a hug from an old friend.
Above all, Liza loved her family. She raised three children as a single mother, giving them her strength, determination, love, and guidance. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing with them nicknames, walks, conversations, laughter, and an enthusiasm for life that they will carry with them forever.
Liza leaves to cherish her memory her brothers: Melvin J. Shaffer and Rueben M. Shaffer; and her sister, Mary L. Cheple; her children: Spencer Shaffer, Ashanti Shaffer, and Shawn Shaffer; her grandchildren: Kylee Shaffer, KyDijah Shaffer, Lexcus Shaffer, Majesty Shaffer, Kassan Shaffer, Bishop Shaffer, Shakhil Shaffer, Secret Shaffer; Niah Shaffer, Mejah Shaffer and her beloved great-grandchildren and her great grand dog “Remy”.
Liza’s life was filled with family, faith, creativity, laughter, music, food, fashion, conversation, and countless memories. Though she has taken her final walk through the streets of the hometown she loved, the words she shared, the meals she prepared, the laughter she created, and the love she gave will continue to live on through everyone who knew her. May she rest peacefully, knowing that she was loved, appreciated, and deeply cherished. “Stay blessed and highly favored.”
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 12 noon until 7:00 p.m. at the Amvets Post 224 “Pavilion”, 750 5th Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
