Mr. Larry W. Stoops, age 78, died June 11, 2024. Formerly of Waynesboro, PA, he had been a resident of Menno Haven Retirement Community, Chambersburg, PA since 2010. Larry was the son of the late Helen V. and Shirley L. “Ted” Stoops.
Larry and his wife Mary Alice were married November 2, 1979.
Larry graduated from Waynesboro High School, Waynesboro, PA in 1964 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Mount St. Mary’s College, Emmitsburg, MD in 1969. He took post graduate courses at Frostburg State University, Frostburg, MD.
Prior to his retirement in 1987, Larry was employed as an accountant with the Carborundum Company / Pangborn Corporation in Hagerstown, MD.
Larry had been an active member of the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren for many years where he served as Church Treasurer, Deacon, Undershepherd, taught Sunday School and sang tenor with the Sanctuary Choir.
Larry and Mary Alice also attended the Chambersburg Church of the brethren.
Singing, especially sacred music, had been a passion of Larry’s for a long time, having sung with Mercersburg Area Community Chorus, Hagerstown Choral Arts, St. John’s Summer Singers and choral groups at Menno Haven.
In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by two aunts, Susan Biesecker of Waynesboro, Carol Ann Sherwood of Wellsboro, PA, and numerous cousins.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
