Julia Joy Ferringer, 103, of Chambersburg, passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at her home. Born March 4, 1921 in Marion Center, PA, she was a daughter of the late Harry C. and Harriet M. Barr Lake. Her beloved husband, Raymond F. Ferringer, preceded her in death on December 16, 1968.
Julia was a 1939 graduate of Marion Center High School. She was employed with Sylvania Co. in Emporium, PA where she made tubes for television sets until her retirement. Julia was a member of The Open Door Church in Chambersburg where she participated with the Jolly 60’s, and played piano. In her younger years she and a friend started a children’s gospel group called God’s Children which played weekly on local television. Julia read her Bible daily and loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren immeasurably. She also enjoyed watching the Kentucky Derby each year.
She is survived by four children, Paul Ferringer and wife Shirley of Cochranton, PA, Diane Boyer of Quarryville, PA, Nancy Grasser and husband Jim of Bolivar, NY and Amy Ferringer of Chambersburg; 16 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 23 great-great grandchildren; two sons-in-law, Richard Fisher and David Kingsley, both of Chambersburg. Aside from her husband and parents, Julia was preceded in death by two daughters, Brenda Fisher and Betty Kingsley; three siblings, Alberta Morgan, Harry C. Lake, Jr., and Clifford Lake; and one son-in-law, John Boyer.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, September 16, 2024 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Mike Sanders will officiate. Interment will be in Marchand Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM prior the service on Monday at the funeral home.
