Mrs. Judy Lynn Moats, 72, of Boonsboro, died early in the afternoon on Friday, July 21, 2023, at Hospice of Washington County’s Doey’s House, Hagerstown. She was the wife of the late Frederick Ray Moats who preceded her in death on August 5, 1987.
Born February 15, 1951, in Hagerstown, she was a daughter of the late Orion William and Audrey Doris Adams Baumgardner. She was a 1969 graduate of North Hagerstown High School, and later James Rumsey Technical Institute, Martinsburg, where she gained vocational training to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Consequently she worked as an LPN with Roxberry Correctional Institute Hagerstown, and Sterling Care South Mountain, Boonsboro, formerly Reeders Memorial Home.
In her free time, Judy enjoyed crocheting; watching movies; reading, especially reading ghost stories; and baking wonderful sweets to share with her family.
Judy is survived by her daughters Shannon Valerie Smith and husband Eric of Sharpsburg, and Stephanie Marie Obitts and significant other Gary Poffenberger of Hagerstown; her four grandchildren, Jessica and Ashley Smith, and Brooke and Chase Poffenberger; her sister June Carroll Kreglo of Virginia; as well as nieces and nephew Kimberly South and Steven Kreglo.
A Memorial Service will be held at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown on Friday, July 28, at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Moats’s name to Hospice of Washington County, 1710 Underpass Way, Suite 110, Hagerstown, Maryland, 21740, to benefit Doey’s House; or the Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740.
