Joseph C. “Joe” Ressler, 95, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Sunday, July 21, 2024. He was the youngest son of Walter M. Ressler and Blanche (Rock) Ressler. He lived all his life in the village of Tomstown, PA.

He graduated from Quincy High School with the class of 1947 where he also served as class president. He and his wife, Peggy (Leatherman) Ressler were married on April 7, 1951 at the Trinity United Brethren Church in State Line, PA. Mrs. Ressler passed away on October 4, 2021. Mr. Ressler was a skilled mason and was employed with the Ressler Brothers Masonry for many years and later worked for Landis Machine in the pattern shop where he retired in 1995. He continued doing masonry work on the side, and later joined his nephew Richard (Dick) Ressler to continue the trade well into his mid-eighties.

Mr. Ressler was active in his church at the Waynesboro Gospel Chapel, serving as an elder and song leader. In earlier years, he sang 1st tenor with the Christian Volunteer Quartet. Also in the past, he directed both the senior and junior choirs at the former Blue Rock United Brethren Church as well as being the song leader. Mr. Ressler was in demand to sing at many weddings and other events over the years. Mr. Ressler also enjoyed the outdoors and hunting.

He is survived by his eight children: Beverly Ressler of Hershey, PA, Jo Ellen Ressler of Chambersburg, PA, Diane Miller (Ken) of Grand Junction, CO., Kathy (Steve) Rice of Hagerstown, MD, Joseph Ressler of Waynesboro, Mary Ressler of Waynesboro, PA Amy Ressler (Doug) of Waynesboro, PA, and Michael Ressler (Rachel) of Waynesboro, PA. Also, he is survived by 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was the last of his family, being preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: James Ressler, Woodrow Ressler, Ernest Ressler, Eleanor (Ressler) Willhide, John Ressler, Mary Jane (Ressler) Mickley and Orpha (Ressler) Bakner.

The family would like to thank all those friends and relatives who have visited and offered support as it was a blessing to him and very much appreciated by all. Special thanks and appreciation to the nurses and CNA staff at SpiriTrust Lutheran Hospice Services who provided excellent care.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, July 27, 2024 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with Elder Dan Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, near Quincy, PA.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Saturday afternoon, in the funeral home.
