John “Jay” Moroughan died on April 19, 2025, in a hospital near his home in Cascade, MD. He had been afflicted with dementia and related ailments.
Jay was born to Virginia Smith Moroughan and Donald Moroughan in 1946 in New Jersey. His family moved to Maryland in 1960, where Jay graduated from Duval High School and, after serving in the U.S. Army, received a B.A. from the University of Maryland. He had a long career with the State of Maryland Department of Juvenile Services.
Jay had a keen mind, was an excellent chess player, and enjoyed playing the guitar & singing. He leaves his siblings Carol, Lloyd, & Wade, nieces Samantha & Alexandra, nephew Matthew, great nephews Lazarus, Theodore, & Raphael, and great niece Beya. His extended family will greatly miss our beloved “Uncle Jay.”
