Mrs. Joan R. (Mummert) Mummert, 84, of Waynesboro, PA passed away Wednesday morning, May 13, 2026, in Paramount Senior Living, Fayetteville, PA.

Born December 31, 1941 in York, PA she was the daughter of the late Raymond A. and Esther J. (Albright) Mummert.

Mrs. Mummert was a graduate of Spring Grove High School, Spring Grove, PA with the Class of 1959.

She and her husband, the late Barry A. Mummert, were married July 21, 1962 in St. Matthews Lutheran Church, York, PA. They moved to Waynesboro in 1962 when Mr. Mummert began teaching at the Waynesboro Area Senior High School and their Stottlemyer Road address in 1967. Mr. Mummert passed away on March 9, 1987 at the age of 46.

Prior to moving to Waynesboro Mrs. Mummert was employed at the Bell Telephone Company, York. Upon moving to Waynesboro, she worked as a waitress at the John Wallace Restaurant for several years. She was last employed as a secretary for the Waynesboro Area School District for 32 years, retiring in April 2008.

She was a member of The Church of the Apostles, Waynesboro and the Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary. After retirement Mrs. Mummert enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling and working in her flower gardens and yard. She also bowled at Sunshine Lanes in the Senior League.

She is survived by two children, Scott A. Mummert and his wife, Debra of Chambersburg, PA and Michelle D. Mummert and her long-time companion, Stacy Gladhill of Smithsburg, MD; two grandchildren, Zachary A. Mummert and his wife, Lisa and Kelly A. Funck and her husband, Greg – both of Chambersburg; two great-granddaughters, Sadie Ann Mummert and Chloe Lorraine Mummert; one brother, Robert A. Mummert and his wife, Colleen of York, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., Friday, May 22, 2026 in The Church of the Apostles, 336 Barnett Ave., Waynesboro, PA.

It was her request to have a private graveside service and burial in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
