Mr. Jeffrey R. Guenther, 80, of Chambersburg, PA passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 15, 2025 in Chambersburg Hospital.

Born September 28, 1944 in Miami, FL, he was the son of the late Rev. Harold J. and Eileen (Moyer) Guenther.

He was a graduate of Shelbyville (IL) High School with the Class of 1962 and Kansas University with the Class of 1968 where he majored in Art.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1968 until he was honorably discharged in 1970.

He and his wife, the late Mrs. Doris H. (Hawkins) Guenther, were married December 4, 1973. They were together for 51 years when she passed away December 2, 2024.

Mr. Guenther began his career as an Art teacher in the Pittsylvania County, VA Public School System. He then went on to open his own art store, Guenther’s Corner Cupboard, which he operated for a number of years before returning to teaching at Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Virginia, He then returned to the Public School System in Shenandoah County, VA and retired in 2013 from Strasburg (VA) High School. For his dedication, he was awarded Teacher of the Year in 2010. He continued to be a substitute for several years following his retirement.

He was an active and dedicated member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Woodstock, VA where he served in many capacities including on the vestry. Active in his community, he faithfully volunteered at the Hospital, Clothing Closet and the Food Pantry to name a few. He also was a member of the American Legion, VECCA and a lifetime member of the KU Alumni Association.

A talented and accomplished artist, he was gifted across a wide array of mediums, from painting and weaving to pottery, needlework, custom framing and card making. His work was showcased at any number of events and shows in the Shenandoah Community and at his studio, Ponds Edge.

A die-hard Jayhawks fan, he followed all Kansas University sporting events. You could seen his Jayhawk vehicle coming a mile away! His love of swimming began in high school where he was a member of the swim team. It continued into his adult years, having coached a number of high school swim teams.

He leaves behind three children, daughter, Courtney L. Burgan and her husband, William of Clear Spring, MD, son, Harold Dalton Guenther and his wife, Selena of Dunoon, Scotland, son, Carlos Solis and his wife, Amy of Kissimmee, FL; four grand-children; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Lyndal Brand and her husband, William of Chesterfield, MO; one niece, Sarah Stockett and her husband Jonathan; two great-nephews Benjamin and Jack Stockett; his beloved dogs, Anna & Bear; and a host of extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Jeffrey’s Life is being planned for September 27, 2025 1pm at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Woodstock Virginia.
