Jean P. Wheelock Jackson, 98, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024 at Village Square at Menno Haven. She was born March 14, 1926 in Hollidaysburg, PA, as the daughter of the late Fenwick W. and Gladys N. Treese Elder.

Jean was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and was employed at the Hollidaysburg State Hospital as a secretary. In May of 1949 she married Walter E. Wheelock and later moved to Chambersburg to start a poultry business. Together they founded Wheelock Hatchery and were quite successful in that business for 33 years. Jean was a member of Solomon’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. A member of the Southern Pennsylvania Rose Society, she delighted in growing roses. She enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Whirleybird Square Dancers. She also enjoyed traveling the United States with the Go Club and spent winters in Haines City, FL for many years.

She is survived by three children, Patricia Springer and husband Darald of Fayetteville, Joyce Shew and husband Jeff of Chambersburg, and Victor Wheelock of Chambersburg; six grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; three step-children, Michael Jackson and wife Diane of Duncansville, Clifford A. Jackson of York, and Brenda B. Glunt and husband Michael of Duncansville; and eight step-grandchildren. Aside from her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter E. Wheelock in 1986 and her second husband, Richard G. Jackson in 2010.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Solomon’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3856 Wayne Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Michael Allwein will officiate. Interment will follow in Gipe’s Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:30 AM prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L.
