Mrs. Jean C. (Kipe) Cline, 88, formerly of Fountaindale and Chambersburg passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024 at the Haven Assisted Living in Mechanicsville, Virginia. She had been under hospice care there following a long battle with recurrent meningioma that began in 2021.

She moved to Virginia in August 2023 to be near her family.

Born September 19, 1935 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Robert J., Sr. and Viola (McIntire) Kipe.

Mrs. Cline was a graduate of Washington Township High School with the Class of 1953 and Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing with the Class of 1956.

Jean married the love of her life, C. Howard Cline, on September 29, 1956 in Rouzerville United Methodist Church. They were together for 66 years when he passed away January 24, 2023.

She began her career as a Registered Nurse at South Mountain Sanatorium (Mont Alto).  Later she was employed at Waynesboro Hospital for many years, ultimately serving as Assistant Head Nurse of the surgical floor. Jean retired in the early 1970’s, but her “nurse’s heart” was evident lifelong in the care of her husband, family, friends, and neighbors.

Mrs. Cline served as the organist at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Fountaindale for over 20 years. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, since 1988 where she served on the Administrative Board for many years. She also was a member of Mack Golden Bulldogs Travel Club, a life member of Preserving Our Heritage Archives and Museum and member of Harrisburg Hospital Nurses Alumni Association.

She enjoyed being with friends and family, traveling, going for long walks, music and genealogy. Extensive research with her husband resulted in documentation of a family tree extending back 9 generations. She was a great cook and creatively experimented with new recipes, willingly shared.

Mrs. Cline is survived by two children, Wanda Jean (Mrs. William) Davis of Montpelier, VA and Michael Howard (husband of Katherine “Kathy”) Cline of St Petersburg, FL; and two grandsons, Jeffrey Davis of Newport News VA, and Joseph Davis of Blacksburg VA; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers William Kipe and Robert Kipe Jr, and a sister Janet Hovis.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, June 29, 2024 in Faith United Methodist Church, 104 N. Potomac St., Waynesboro with Pastor Alison Grove officiating. Burial will follow in Fairfield Union Cemetery, Adams Co., PA.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Saturday morning, in the church.  The family will also receive family and friends at a luncheon following the burial.
