Mr. James William “Yave” Miller, 73, of Hagerstown, passed away, early Sunday evening, January 19, 2020, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown.  He was the husband of Mrs. Essie May Loveless Miller, his wife of 53 years.

Born May 5, 1946, in Middletown, he was a son of the late Wayne Hector and Betty Jane Lewis Miller.

Mr. Miller was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968.  He was the recipient of the Purple Heart; and Bronze Medal of Valor for courage under fire.

He was a roofer by trade; and finished his career with Grove Worldwide as a painter.

James enjoyed spending time his grandchildren and family, taking car rides with his dog Bane, working on cars, fishing, popsicle stick art, and collecting Bobble Heads.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, James W. Miller, Jr., and wife Kelly, and Melissa Thomas and husband Mike, all of Hagerstown; grandchildren,  Krista Miller of Lynchburg, Virginia, Rachel Thomas of Salisbury and Michael Thomas who is currently and proudly serving the United States Marine Corp; as well as by siblings, George, Donald, Tom and Rick Miller, and Barbara Shank, all of Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, on Friday, January 24, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  The funeral service will be on Saturday, January 25, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Betty D. Jones officiating.  Interment with military honors will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
