Mr. James V. Fermes, 78, of Gerrardstown, West Virginia, died suddenly Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at the residence of his grandson George E. Stull and wife Candice Brown-Stull. He was the husband of Mrs. Erma Grace Stover Fermes, who preceded him in death on January 30, 1998.
Born March 17, 1934, in Hagerstown, he was a son of the late Leroy James Fermes and Mildred Virginia Grubb Fermes Swenson.
Retired since 1996, Mr. Fermes worked from the Washington County Board of Education, working first for Emma K. Doub, then Williamsport High School.
He served in the US Navy and was a member of the Williamsport American Legion
Post 202.
Surviving are his daughters Elizabeth A. Butts and Shena M. Zellers, both of Clear Spring, and Paula Cline and Wilma E. Stull, both of Hagerstown; as well as nineteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and several great, great grandchildren..
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ronald E. Stover.
The funeral service will be Saturday, May 5, at 11:00 AM, from the Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
