It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jack M. Sheffler, 81, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, who left us on July 12, 2024.

Born July 10, 1943, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late William C. Sheffler, Sr. and Leota Jane Cool Sheffler.

Jack was a graduate of Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1961 and served with the Pennsylvania National Guard in Waynesboro for several years.

He was a longtime employee of the former James River Corp., previously American Can Company, in Chambersburg. Prior to his retirement, he served as manager of the Owl’s Club in Waynesboro for many years.

Jack was a member of several local organizations which included the Owl’s Club, Eagles Club, Inc., William Max McLaughlin VFW Post #695, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1191, Joe Stickell American Legion Post # 15 and ECTC Travel Club.

Jack was a pillar of strength for his family. His tireless work ethic and constant desire to impart wisdom were qualities that defined him. Whether at work or home, he always found opportunities to teach and inspire those around him. A passionate sports enthusiast, Jack had an unwavering love for Penn State sports. Saturdays were often spent cheering for his beloved Nittany Lions, but his appreciation for sports extended far beyond just one team. He found joy in the thrill of competition and shared this enthusiasm with his family and friends.

Jack leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Mrs. Mary C. (Fisher) Sheffler who he married July 1, 1967; his children, Diane Sheffler (Gary Smith) and Brian Sheffler (Amanda Peterson); his cherished grandchild, Christopher; sister, Sondra Sheffler; brother, William “Bill” Sheffler (Mary Ellen); and a number of nieces and nephews as well as a host of extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Steven Reiber.

His legacy of love, hard work, and passion for sports will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be held graveside at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 17, 2024 in Green Hill Cemetery, 953 S. Potomac St., Waynesboro with the Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook officiating.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Owl’s Club Little League Baseball Team. Please mail checks to Owls Club Inc. 87 West Main Street in Waynesboro PA 17268. Include on Memo Line of Check, in memory of Jack Sheffler.
