Jack A. Zimmerman, 93, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026. He was born December 7, 1932, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, the son of the late George W. Zimmerman and Katherine (Henry) Zimmerman Welch. A 1951 graduate of Chambersburg Area High School, he worked for over 39 years at Letterkenny Army Depot in the Electronics Division. Jack was also a member of the Chambersburg Brethren in Christ Church for over 40 years, where he was the Head Usher and coached the basketball team there, during that time. A devout Christian man, Jack’s faith had a presence that was recognized when he encountered people and also his fun and comical spirit always brightened up a room. Although he was an avid Chambersburg Trojan, Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State football fan, Jack, himself, was a very talented, active athlete and avid sportsman who played for the Chambersburg Cardinal football team as a linebacker. He received a trophy for most valuable player. He also played for the Chambersburg Maroons Baseball Team and various other basketball teams, including the Community League Basketball Team, T. B. Woods Basketball Team, and Letterkenny Army Depot Basketball Team. He also developed the team for the Chambersburg Brethren in Christ Church. Jack was known as "Jack the Hack" because he was the only person that could play football on the basketball court! In addition to his love of sports, he was also an avid hunter and fisherman, Jack was an expert shot with the "Rifle", "Bow" and "Flintlock". He was president of the Letterkenny Rod and Gun Club for many years and oversaw the Brush Crew and the Annual Children’s Fishing Rodeo. He is survived by his three children: Marilyn Dick, Keith Zimmerman (Kathy), Noelle Ott, four grandchildren: Cory Dick (Melissa), Zachary Zimmerman (Lorie), Joshua Zimmerman (April), Rachel Ott, eight great-grandchildren: Dylan Dick, Dalton Dick, Marley Dick, Cora Zimmerman, Zoe Zimmerman, Malachi Zimmerman, Isabella Horst (Tyler), Liam Ott, and three sister-in-law’s: Betty Pogue, Joan Pogue, and Bonnie Pogue. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Poe), stepfather, Augustus Welch and siblings: Josephine Wolfe, Sarah Brown, George W. Zimmerman II, Percy Pogue, Frederick (Fritz) Pogue, Gary Pogue and a grandson Cain Ott. There will be a visitation at Sellers Funeral Home on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 5 to 7 PM. The funeral service will be Friday, January 16, 2026, at Sellers Funeral Home from 1 to 2 PM with Pastor Kevin Witter officiating and a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Salem United Brethren Cemetery. A special thanks to dad’s good friends and neighbors: Jay and Carol Lefever, Norman and Cindy Shaffer and Clifford Gayman for their wonderful friendship to our father over the years. Dad, you have always been a true Beacon of Light and Love to our Family. You will always be Greatly Missed and Loved Forever. Marilyn, Keith and Noelle Memorial contributions may be made in Jack’s name at St Jude Children’s Hospital, https://www.stjude.org and the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, https://cvas-pets.org
