Iva H. Black, age 93, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at her daughter’s home. Born November 1, 1931, in Williamson, PA, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Helen Higgins Hager.
Mrs. Black worked as a cook at Hillcrest Restaurant for a number of years, retiring in 1982. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, bird watching, playing Bingo, and spending time with her family.
Surviving are three children, David R. Black (wife Cindy) of Clear Spring, MD, Timothy R. Black of Greencastle, PA, and Penny J. Nicarry (husband Rick) of Greencastle, PA; four grandchildren, David R. Black, Jr. (Angie Pickle), Daniel Black (wife Melissa), Brock Bricker (wife Tiffany), and Dustan Black (wife Stephanie); five great-grandchildren; two siblings, Donald Hager (wife Helen) of Greencastle, PA and Karl Hager of Marion, PA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Black in 2003, two sons, Richard E. Black in 1967 and Michael L. Black in 1971, and five brothers, and three sisters. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her personal caregivers, Larry and Geraldine Sites and Marlene Eckenrode for their attentive compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 11 AM in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA 17225, where Rev. David Rawley will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 6 – 8 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Cedar Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Grane Hospice, 1200 Camp Hill Byp., Suite 205, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
