Mr. Ira William Brown, 66, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at his residence. He was the husband of Mrs. Jimayne L. Shank Brown, his wife of 19 years.
Born January 1, 1958, in Philadelphia, he was a son of Muhammad Abdullah of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the late Rosa M. Cade Brown. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Mr. Brown was worked with the United States Department of Defense.
He was of Roman Catholic faith.
Mr. Brown was head coach of the Hagerstown Warthogs, a Professional Basketball team; as well as assisted with coaching at Grace Christian and Broadfording Christian Academies.
Surviving, in addition to his wife and father are his children London Chelsea Barr of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Anthony Montclair Barr-Brown of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; siblings Kevin Brown, Denise Hutchinson, June Marty, and Daryl Brown; as well as several aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; and cousins, including Annie Jones.
Besides his mother, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a sister Rosemary Brown.
The family will receive friends at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, on Wednesday, July 17, beginning at 11:00 AM, and until a memorial service to celebrate Mr. Brown’s life begins at 12:00 PM. Rev. Tonny D. Harris will officiate. The time and location of inurnment will be announced at a later time.
