Miss Hilda Luella Stoner, 94, of Hagerstown, died Friday afternoon, April 8, 2016, at her residence.
Born January 30, 1922, in Cashtown, Pennsylvania, she was the fourth child of the late William Elvin and Mary Catharine Hartman Stoner. She graduated with the Class of 1940 from Hagerstown High School; and attended Columbia Business College.
She started working for Guy S. Kidwell, CPA, on January 21, 1942, at a time when many women went to work at jobs previously dominated by men and who were being called to war. She worked for Mr. Kidwell until his death on January 21, 1979. The firm was then purchased immediately by William F. Park & Co, whom she continued to work with as office manager and senior accountant. At retirement she had served a total of 55 years in Public Accounting.
Miss Stoner was a member of Christ Reformed Church UCC.
Additionally, she was a member of the American Society of Women Accountants, District of Columbia Charter; and the National Association of Cost Accountants.
Surviving is her nephew Charles H. Stoner and his wife Judy of Hagerstown; her cousin David Barr and his wife Judy; as well as other valued friends, neighbors, and relatives.
Besides her parents, Miss Stoner was preceded in death by siblings, C. Cleveen and Stanley M. Stoner, who died as children, and Alma Stoner Woerner and Dorsey E. Stoner.
The family will receive friends at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, on Tuesday, April 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 13, at 2:00 PM, with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Greg R. Meserole, officiating. Interment will follow in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville, Pennsylvania.
