Helen J. “Joan” Shoop, 92, of Carlisle, and formerly of Chambersburg, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025 at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, PA. Born December 13, 1932, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Arthur L. and Helen M. (Strock) Hocker. Her beloved husband, Wallace Pearl Shoop, preceded her in death in 1983.
Helen was a graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. She was employed as an Administrative Assistant for the Federal Government, first at Letterkenny Army Depot and later at Ft. Detrick, MD, until her retirement in 1993.
She is survived by two children, Alan Lyn Shoop (Jennifer Nachamkin), and Lori Ann Harbaugh (Brian Farris); two granddaughters, Samantha Pearl Harbaugh, and Olivia Joan Shoop; three nieces, Debra McDannell, Nina Wilson, and Roberta Kopsch; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Aside from her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her brother, Robert G. Hocker.
