Mrs. Heidi Lawson Brennan, 72, of Blue Ridge Summit, PA, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
Born April 9, 1953, in Burbank, CA, she was the eldest daughter of the late Robert Lawson and Marianne Virginia (Loris) Lawson.
She was raised in Burbank and graduated from John Burroughs High School with the Class of 1971. Heidi went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University in 1975 and later received her Master’s degree from American University in Washington, D.C.
On May 15, 1982, she married John J. Brennan at the Dahlgren Chapel of the Sacred Heart at Georgetown University, the very place where their story began. Their marriage was marked by steady devotion, shared faith, and deep friendship. Heidi was John’s constant companion, his careful guardian of appointments and medications, and the quiet strength beside him every day.
More than 20 years ago, Heidi and John purchased their home in Blue Ridge Summit as a peaceful country retreat while living in Arlington, VA. In 2022, they made it their full-time home, grateful for the slower pace and close-knit community they had come to cherish.
Heidi was a faithful and active member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Blue Ridge Summit, where she served as a lector, was a member of the Ladies Society, and contributed to the Strategic Committee.
She served as president of Mothers Home, Inc., and was a board member of the Blue Ridge Summit Free Library. In 1991, she received Eagle Forum’s prestigious Full-Time Homemaker Award, reflecting the value she placed on faith, family, and home.
While she accomplished much, her greatest pride was her family. Heidi was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a grandmother who delighted in every milestone, story, and hug. Her eight grandchildren were treasures to her. She had a way of making each person feel noticed and cared for, whether through a warm meal, thoughtful advice, or simply a kind word spoken at the right moment.
She presided over the beloved “Dancing Cow Kitchen,” named for her collection of black and white cow décor that filled the heart of her home. There she cooked, gathered her family, and created memories that will endure far beyond the walls of that kitchen. Over the years, she also enjoyed the companionship of beloved dogs, especially German Shepherds and Black Standard Poodles, who were part of the family she so lovingly tended.
In addition to her husband, John, she is survived by her five children: Charles H. Brennan and his wife, Michelle, of Cape Carteret, NC; Marianne D. Martinez and her husband, Michael, of Fredericksburg, VA; Cara P. Brennan of New York, NY; Daniel J. Brennan of New York, NY; and John Paul Brennan of Alexandria, VA. She leaves behind eight grandchildren whom she adored: Anya Rose Brennan, Abigail Marie Brennan, Charles Gunnar Brennan, Connor Xavier Brennan, Aurora Grace Brennan, Ariella Evangeline Brennan, Samuel Brennan Martinez, and Sierra Kathleen Martinez.
She is also survived by two siblings, Jody Lawson and James Lawson, both of Burbank, CA, along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, 13219 Monterey Lane, Blue Ridge Summit, PA, with Father Peter DiTomasso officiating. A private burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fairfield will follow.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions in Heidi’s name may be made to St. Rita’s Catholic Church, 13219 Monterey Lane, Blue Ridge Summit, PA 17214.
Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, is handling the arrangements.
