Mr. Harry Clayton Snook, 90, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday morning, December 28, at his residence.



Born June 29, 1921, in Halfway, he was the son of the late Norman Jacob and Eva Virginia Startzman Snook.



He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Agnes Hicks Snook, who died on September 18, 1997.



Mr. Snook formerly owned and operated Harry Snook Poultry, retiring in 1972.


He was a 1939 graduate of Hagerstown High School.



He served in the United States Army Air Force with the 368

th

Flight Squadron during World War II.



He was a very active member in the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren; and the United Workers Sunday School Class.



Mr. Snook was a very active with his community as a politician as well as serving with community and fraternal organizations.


At the start of his political career, he served as a member and Past President of the Republican Club.


Later he served as a Washington County Commissioner from 1954-62; Judge of the Orphans Court from 1962-66; and County Treasurer from 1974-1986.



Additionally, he was a member of Hagerstown Lions Club, Morris Frock Post 42, American Legion, and Hagerstown Elks Lodge 378.



Mr. Snook bowled with the Turff Bowling League; and was a Past President of the league.



Surviving are his children, Christine Virginia Watts of Lutherville, and Larry Norman Snook of Hagerstown; three grandchildren, Laura Virginia, Timothy Griggs and David Clayton Watts; his sister-in-law, Jane H. Snook of Land of Lakes, Florida; as well as a special friend Pauline B. Butts.



Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Mary V. Brill, M. Geraldine Anderson, Catherine I. Snyder, Pearl M. Pratt, A. Floretta Coffman, and Luther S. and Norman K. Snook.



The memorial service will be Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 11:00 AM, at his church, Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, East Washington Street, Hagerstown.


His pastor, Rev.


Edward L. Poling will officiate.




Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown, Tuesday morning, 9:30 AM, prior to the memorial service.


The family will receive friends at the Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 East Antietam Street, Hagerstown, on Monday evening, January 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.




In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, 15 South Mulberry Street, Hagerstown, Maryland
