Mr. Harry E. Smith, III, 82, of Mont Alto, PA, passed away Tuesday morning, September 1, 2026, in his home.

Born April 14, 1944 in South Mountain, PA, he was the son of the late Harry Smith, Jr. and Alverna (Kauffman) Smith.

Mr. Smith served with the United States Army from July 26, 1961 until July 29, 1964.

He and his wife, Bonnie (Bricker) Smith, were married on July 24, 1999 in Mont Alto.

Mr. Smith worked at Letterkenny Army Depot from 1971 until 1990. He also worked at JLG in Shippensburg, PA, was a bartender at Moose Lodge #1191, Waynesboro and the job he loved at the South Mountain Golf Course, working with his best buddy, Andy George.

He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15 and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1191, both of Waynesboro and the South Mountain Fish and Game.

Mr. Smith was an avid golfer, who enjoyed attending auctions and flea markets. He also enjoyed watching nascar races.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two step-children, Kristi Eckrich (Jake) of Mechanicsburg, PA and Jason Moats (Shelly) of Fayetteville, PA; three grandchildren, Private Trevor D. Eckrich – USMC, Aaron T. Eckrich of Carlisle, PA and Ella M. Moats of Fayetteville; three sisters, Delaine Mowen of South Mountain, Bonita Sease of South Mountain and Celia Wagaman of Mont Alto; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Alice (Keyfauver) Smith, who died on October 2, 1997; one sister, Sherry Seiders; and one brother, Dwight Smith.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 P.M., Saturday, September 5, 2026 in Strang’s Cemetery, South Mountain, PA, where military honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg. Pastor Colin Morley will be officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M., Saturday afternoon, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, PA.

The family would like to send a special thank you to their hospice angels from Adoration Hospice, Steph, Julie, Lisa and Kat. Also, to all of their special neighbors and friends, but especially to their family members for their love and support.
